The optical properties of polarizers include three main performance indicators: polarization degree, transmittance, and hue. Other indicators include UV protection performance, as well as transmittance, total reflectance, and diffuse reflectance for semi-transmissive polarizers. In the use of general LCD products, it is required that the polarization degree and transmittance performance indicators be as high as possible. The higher the polarization degree and transmittance, the higher the display efficiency of the LCD display device, and the lower the relative energy consumption. However, for conventional iodine-dyed polarizer products, polarization degree and transmittance are contradictory. The higher the polarization degree, the lower the transmittance, and it is also constrained by hue. Therefore, the polarization degree of general-purpose polarizer products is generally between 90% and 99%, and the transmittance is between 41% and 44%. The "Shenghuaxin" brand polarizer produced by Shenzhen Shenghuaxin Technology Co., Ltd. has a polarization degree of over 97% and a transmittance of 43% for its universal PLN product, while its medium-durability and high-contrast PMN product has a polarization degree of over 99.9% and a transmittance of over 42%. The hue indicator is mainly to meet people's visual habits, and it is required that the hue deviation of the polarizer product be small to ensure the consistency of the appearance hue of the final LCD product. This is mainly identified by the chromaticity coordinate parameters L, a, and b values of the polarizer product and their control tolerance range, which is generally the smaller the better.
The durability technical indicators of polarizers include four aspects: high temperature resistance, damp heat resistance, low temperature resistance, and resistance to thermal shock. Among these, the most critical is the damp heat resistance indicator. High temperature resistance refers to the polarizer's ability to withstand temperature under constant baking conditions. Currently, based on the technical grade of polarizers, they are typically categorized into three levels: general-purpose type: operating temperature of 70℃×500HR; medium durability type: operating temperature of 80℃×500HR; and high durability type: operating temperature above 90℃×500HR. The damp heat resistance technical indicator refers to the polarizer's performance under constant temperature and humidity conditions. It is also typically divided into three technical grades: general-purpose type: damp heat operating conditions of 40℃×90%RH×500HR; medium durability type: damp heat operating conditions of 60℃×90%RH×500HR; and high durability type: damp heat operating conditions of 70℃×95%RH×500HR or above. Since the basic materials constituting the polarizing film, PVA film and iodine and iodides, are highly hydrolyzable, and also because the pressure-sensitive adhesive used in polarizers tends to deteriorate under high temperature and humidity conditions, the most important durability technical indicators of polarizers are high temperature resistance and damp heat resistance. If these indicators are met, other durability indicators usually pose no issues.
